RIP big left toenail

Family and co-toes mourn the loss of Big Left Toenail, known to friends as "Big Lefty Piggles." Piggles passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011, after a short period of hospice care following a tragic accident. He was surrounded by co-toes at the end.

On the morning of September 27, an out-of-control office chair slammed into the left foot. Piggles placed himself in the line of fire, leaping to the defense of his cousin the First Phalangeal Bone. The impact threw Piggles into the air, loosening his grip on his toe. Piggles was rushed to Concentra Urgent Care on California Street, San Francisco, California, USA. Doctors were guarded but hopeful, and he was reattached to his toe.

Piggles fought a short but valiant fight to live. His conditioned worsened, and he was pronounced dead at Renown Urgent Care North Hills in Reno Nevada the following Friday. His remains will be interred in a compost pile at a private residence in Reno. A wake is scheduled to be held at 7 pm on October 1, 2011.

A detailed accident investigation found no evidence of drugs or alcohol in the chair operator's system, and the collision was ruled an accident. No charges are expected to be filed.

  1. Oh that hurts. I haven't even looked at the pics, but I KNOW. I had a horse I was shoeing stomp down and popped my big toenail right off. I had to finish shoeing him, and I didn't even look until I was done, but my boot was squishy with blood all the way to the heel, so I knew it was gonna be bad. I limped for WEEKS. My sympathies are with you. It friggin HURTS!

  3. OUCH!! lost toe nail last summer - seems that's what happens when a 2000 pound horse steps on you.

Hope it all heals quickly for you.

  4. I had something similar happen with my left pinkie toe nearly 5 years ago. Only, it was a corner of the bed accident.

    Love your obituary!

  7. That was funny (!)--in a sort of macabre way. I'm afraid I couldn't bring myself to look at the photos. I totally admire your sense of humor--I would merely be whining.

  9. I had a sense that something may be afoot.

Anyway I do sympathise, having had a similar experience with a gate not long ago. They do grow back, and quite soon (in my experience) they hurt a lot less.

I am sorry though and send my condolences for the demise and loss of said partial appendage armour. Be glad you don't have one fall off everytime you ride over twenty miles... and feel better soon. ~E.G.
