Damn I'm good.
My main reason to start this blog was just to have a place online (in case my laptop melts down) where I have a record of animal stuff - deworming, pictures, hoof trimming, etc. I am convinced that I can't be trusted to keep track of shit like that (mainly because I can't actually remember what happened last week.) But I've started noticing that I'm better than I thought.
Yesterday I started worrying in the back of my mind about whether it's time to deworm the house pets. Then I forgot. Today I remembered again, and I checked here, and whaddya know - it's been exactly a month. So today Cersei got her Iverhart and Promeris and the cats got their Advantage.
Also, cats are pretty amusing. While I was out this morning they knocked their scratching post off the desk. When I came home I picked it up and set it in the chair. They've been exploring it ever since. Familiar chair + familiar scratching post = Entirely New Structure!
Curtis has been eating some strange food lately. He's such a wicked little beggar that I'll usually give him a bite of my food when I'm done. In the last week, he's had oatmeal, raw cabbage, and whey protein powder drink. Pro tip: When The Internet says "cats are usually lactose intolerant," that really means "if you feed your cat some whey protein drink, he will hork it up in three different spots on your carpet within 5 minutes of consumption."
When I was 14, I was asked what I would want as my epitaph. The best I could come up with, after a few minutes of serious thought, was "It seemed like a good idea at the time." Twenty years later, that's still the best I can explain about why I do anything.

winter is back :(
The lovely weather is gone again. It's cold and very rainy. The horses were very glad to come in out of the rain for the night. I won't put them back out til the precip stops - we might get SNOW mixed with our rain tomorrow. Egads! High of 41, so it can't be too bad. Unless they're wrong and we get an ice storm.
Cersei does not approve of the rain. Having a puppy is so much fun. So much stuff is totally new to her. Of course she's been rained on before, but yesterday and Saturday she was deeply offended by how hot it was. Poor thing has no idea about summer yet.
Trying to get my Mississippi bar application together. It's the hardest document I've ever had to fill out. List any moving violations in the last 10 years. Prove it if you don't have any. All residences since I was 18. All jobs since I was 18 - oh and send a form to all those jobs too, ok? Ugh.
Must wash the brace tomorrow. It smells terrible. I'm not good at handwashing stuff but I'll have to figure it out.
The antibiotics will never end, I fear. Curtis is a champ about taking them. Syringe is definitely the way to go.
Wonder when I dewormed the horses last. I think it was the middle of Jan so they're overdue. I could've sworn I wrote it down - maybe it's on the corkboard in my tack room. Hmm.

C is still recovering.
He doesnt yowl anymore when I scruff him for his antibiotics. He has learned that if he opens his mouth he gets nasty water squirted in there. I have to pry his teeth open with the syringe tip now. Clever boy.
I finally went to the dr for my aching wrist. I inflamed a tendon in my thumb about three months ago and Ive been hoping it would heal on its own but it didnt. Almost thru w oral prednisone, and i got a shot of cortisone in the problem tendon and a wrist brace. It is v. hard to type in the brace so this post probably "sounds" different. Anyway i have to wear brace til I see dr again on the 10th. Surely I will have relearned how to type by then cause I'm at about 25 wpm right now. :(

Curtis :)
He had kitty food poisoning - probably from munching on a bone that Cersei was working on. The vet gave me 5 days of Panacur (in case it's a parasite) and a whole bunch of antibiotics. He was a little dehydrated, so they were going to give him some sub-q fluids - but he sank all his claws to the hilt into the vet tech, so they decided he wasn't *that* dehydrated and let him go :)
Of course the antibiotics are pills. Fortunately, they're small so I'm just mixing them with water and syringing them into him. I scruff him, wait for him to open his mouth to yowl, and put a half cc of the worst-tasting water in the world down his throat.
He feels a lot better, but he's not well yet. He perked up a lot Monday evening, so I was tempted to not give him antibiotics at all. But he's still licking his butt a lot so I'm going to do the whole round.
Yesterday it got COLD again (from 45 down to 35 during the day) so I didn't ride. Actually, it was so cold that I stayed at work til 8, then went by and fed as fast as I could. The horses always think they're starving, and I needed the hours. It's warming back up today - back in the 40s. I'm not sure what we're doing at work today, but I'll probably work late again. Maybe I'll ride Quinn tomorrow.
