Please come back!

I was drinking coffee this morning when I noticed a hummingbird checking out my rose. (The rose bush is absolutely thriving - it put out a bunch of new growth then decided to bloom again.)

I dashed off to Home Depot and bought a feeder and a post. Please come back, little guy! Tell your friends!

  1. Your feeder will work best if it is close to your flowers. They tend not to use stand-alone feeders in my experience. What kind was it?

  2. I absolutely LOVE hummingbirds! I have some plants on my front patio that seem to attract them and I've seen quite a few of them this year. For some reason, though, they keep flying into my garage and then can't figure out how to fly out. I've resorted to using the leaf rake to coax them into resting on it and then quickly take them outside. Thank goodness I've been able to get to them in time because they wear themselves out in there bumping into the ceiling trying to find a way out. I hope your hummingbird comes back! :)

  5. I've always had Hummers. Hannah swears they follow me wherever I go. In MT. I went through 100 + lbs of sugar a summer. Here in NV I only have about 6, but next year the babies will come back. Put a really big, bright, yellow, orange, red or hot pink fake flower on top of your feeder & they will find it.
I hope you make it to Bridgeport one of these days. It's not really that far from you & so worth it. Dale will be there around the 2nd week of July 2012! Me, with my luck I'll probably be taking care of animals agian...

  7. Update: he/she came back this morning! Also that feeder leaks (poorly designed) so I'll probably pick up a new one this afternoon. Yay hummers!

  8. I've never had any luck with hummingbird feeders--I just started planting more flowers that they liked! They are a lot of fun to watch, especially when they get into these Star-Wars type territorial battles.

  9. MH had several feeders up at the other house and we always had quite a few of the cute little guys/gals around.

There is only one at the new house. I have not put up any feeders here yet. But every morning I open the garage door to watch the sun come up and the one little guy that hangs around here zooms in and checks out the red pull strap for the garage door. Then he has to check out the potted flowers by the doorway. Pretty quick...off he goes to the garden to get an actual meal. LOL

  10. I hope they did come back! It looks like you're using a sugar/water mix in there- that's good! I've noticed they tend to choose that over the weird store bought mixes.
