Weekend Update

(Doesn't that title just bring you back to the days of your youth when SNL was funny? Or at least when you were young and THOUGHT SNL was funny?)

In no particular order:

  1. Dixie is on strike from beet pulp.  I am refusing to negotiate with terrorists.  Well, ok, I'm negotiating to the extent that she gets a much higher % of hay pellets and a much lower % of beet pulp... for now.  :ominous glare at horse:
  2. G has rented a fabulous house for us in Daly City.  It's huger than we need, it costs a bazillion dollars, but most importantly:  pets ok.  Yahoo!  Move in on the 19th.
  3. I have someone coming to look at renting this house on Tuesday.  Fingers crossed!
  4. My unspeakably fabulous purple and blue fringed half chaps have arrived.  No, you may not see pictures now.  You must wait for ride pics.
  5. I have been doing yard work pretty much nonstop since Friday and I filled up 21 bags.  Dead tumbleweeds, dead weeds, live baby sagebrush.  Now the yard looks like a barren rockpile instead of a weedy rockpile.  Improvement?
  6. I haven't ridden my beast since last Saturday.  Que sera, sera.  I think she'll be ok.  Hoping to get out for a pleasure cruise with the Cersei-dog tomorrow afternoon.
  7. I am oddly zen about Washoe.  It appears that I am focusing all my worrying on moving instead.  Hopefully this means we'll have a delightfully fun 10-hour ride.
  8. The Former Dr. Seuss room is entirely full of packed boxes, except for enough room to open the door.  The garage is de-junked.  The cat room needs sweeping and scrubbing, and the blue room is now the Other Room of Boxes, but the rest of the house is clean and airy.
That is all.

  1. oooh. I just found your blog and I'm excited to follow it! I'm hoping to move to Reno one day, and your horse stories and pictures are just making it even more of a dream.

  2. Glad to hear the update, I was wondering what was going on in the Kingdom of Funder, what with the move imminent and all! Did you find a boarding spot for Dixie, I don't remember..?

And my brain did indeed go straight back to SNL when I saw the posttitle, back to when it was funny..but like you say, did we just THINK it was funny? Possible..

    1. Nah, it's something I'll firm up next week hopefully. I've been waiting to see where we'd get a house. The Barn I Liked in Portola Valley is <30 mins from Daly City so I'll probably call them first...

  3. Wow, that's coming up soon! I know that because its the date of my first ride this season:) Hope all goes smoothly, does that mean G will be moving, and you will be moving- at the same time, or is he already there?

Oh, regarding hay pellets. Do you always mix them in with your beet pulp? I saw they had some Orchard pellets on sale at the feed store the other day and considered getting some to mix in with Cs mash for vet checks but couldn't decide if it would be better for him to be eating more actual hay at checks. Thoughts?

    1. When I say "hay pellets" I mean EGM Stable Mix - it's mostly hay, weed free, low-ish starch, highly palatable wet or mushy. Dixie adores it. Since she will gobble it down wet, I feed it at vet checks to get that extra moisture into her.

It doesn't take much actual food to keep the gut sounds up. It takes all the water the horse is willing to drink to keep hydration acceptable. I'd rather my horse ate wet hay pellets than dry hay in the time in the vet check! JMHO :D

  4. During the heyday of SNL (dating myself), my fellow middle-schoolers and I took turns taping (as in audio tape recorder style) episodes on the sly. The tapes were shared around in the playground on Mondays. Can't speak to the later years, but back then it was most definitely funny.

Sounds like you're feeling better about the impending move. Glad to hear it - can't wait to see the new digs. Are there lots of diy opportunities?!

Good luck with everything, and enjoy the ride. :)

    1. LOL @ your tapes! Probably no DIY. I think the house is in great shape. At least I can build some boxes and grow herbs on the deck?

  5. I don't think SNL was EVER funny.
Good to hear an update! All very momentous things happening! (I'm especially excited for the chaps....)

  6. I *MUST* see the purple/blue fringes. I must, I must, I must.

    >stamping foot<

    Do you hear me?

  7. Agree with AareneX's foot stomping, I must see photos TOO. Can't you just gallop around like a Native American bareback on the beet-pulp-rejecting horse and get photos?! Maybe she'll eat if she feels like a badass contributing to some killer photos of purple-blue-fringed awesomeness!

  8. If you're not going to share pics of the half chaps, you have to at least share your source for where you got them. Multi-colored half chaps? Sign me up! I'd love to get a pair with orange accents.

    1. This I will do! They're from Ann Kratochvil - you can see Merri's (very tasteful) half chaps in this post. No website, but I'm happy to give out her phone number if you email me. Less than $150, so not cheap but not outrageous for custom leatherwork.

  9. I have no idea what SNL is/was, but I sure am glad to hear you found a pet friendly place to live and have a prospective tenant coming to view your place. Packing/moving is exhausting - sounds like you have it well in hand and will be posting photos from your new home before you/we know it!

    1. LOL, Saturday Night Live! It's comedy TV show that's been on the air for, eeek, 37 years now. People seem to universally think it was hysterical when they were 12-20 years old and not funny now, no matter one's age.

  10. You have been busy! Moving is so much work! The new house sounds fabulous. Can't wait to see pics. Same for the chaps - sound fab, need pics.

  11. FUUuuundeeeerrrrr how can you be so cruel! **stomping foot** We demand half chap pics!!

Have to ask, are you going to be somewhat at a loss living in a house that doesn't need your DIY touches?

  12. So exciting , the big move and all.I don't envy all the packing ahead but the house sounds great... it will be nice to reunite yourself with hubby I am sure... ofcourse, you'll have to learn to "live together" 24/7... have fun with that... !

Need to catch up on older posts and other blogs... been dealing with major dog issues... it may not end well ..
